Empty Properties

An exemption can be applied to the following EMPTY properties IF :

It is undergoing structural alteration or major repair (exempt for up to 12 months only then a 50% charge may be applied)

It is owned by a Charity (exempt for up to 6 months only then a 50% charge may applied)

It is unfurnished (exempt for up to 6 months only then a 50% charge may be applied)

It belongs to someone who is in detention

It belongs to someone who has moved to receive personal care elsewhere

Probate or letters of administration are waiting to be granted

Probate has been granted (exempt for up to 6 months afterwards, unless ownership of the property has been transferred)

The law says the property cannot be lived in

It is waiting to be lived in by a Minister of Religion

It belongs to someone who has moved to provide care for another person

It belongs to a student

It has been repossessed

It belongs to someone who has become bankrupt

It is a caravan pitch or boat mooring
