Tremendous progress has been made and is continuing to be made on the development of a number of business locations.
Teesdale, a £350m development, which is home to companies such as Abbey National, Barclaycard and Churchill Insurance, comprises extensive housing schemes, prestigious office buildings, canal waterways and the Stockton Campus of the University of Durham. This transformation of the former industrial wasteland on the banks of the River Tees is due largely to the development of the Tees Barrage, which produced a ten mile non-tidal freshwater section of waterway. It is now Tees Valley's premier office and living environment. Recent developments have included the speculatively built 2,787 sqmTeesdale South office complex by Mandale properties and Camden House, Prince's Wharf a 2788sqm speculative office development by Teesland which was fully let prior to completion. Terrace Hill is currently building more offices within Teesdale, part of the 1160sqm Advance building has been let and two further substantial office buildings are planned. The 4926sqm Cavendish House recently constructed by Teesland will complete the development at Prince's Wharf.
The development of the South Stockton Link Road involved the construction of another new bridge over the River Tees and there will be a new access point from the A66 to the town centre. This will open up new economic development sites with direct access to the town centre at
Bowesfield and the already successful
Preston Farm Industrial Estate, with purpose built and be-spoke developments by a wide range of developers and home to companies like Caterpillar UK and Hygena.
Amongst the largest, and most attractive, locations for business in the borough is the prestigious
Wynyard Business Park. This 190ha business park is next to Samsung and the location is expected to eventually attract a number of new businesses to the borough.
There is also a wide choice of more traditional industrial estates locations in the Stockton-on-Tees Borough including: -
- Primrose Hill Industrial Estate, a recently completed development of 13 new industrial units ranging from 281sqm to 1591sqm located close to the town centre.
- The Industrial Estates off Portrack Lane (including the Portrack Interchange Business Park) are adjacent to the A19 dual carriageway and continue to be very popular with businesses. Three large new retail units were the most recent development and sites are immediately available for the development of other units particularly for manufacturing and distribution purposes.
- Durham Lane Industrial Estate at Eaglescliffe is home to companies such as Tetleys. New roads and other infrastructure have been constructed to open up 29 ha of land for development. One NorthEast is planning to build a total of about 4,500sqm. of industrial units on the first plot.
