To place tables, chairs or other temporary furniture on the highway (roads and pavements) within the Stockton Borough you will need a Street Cafe Licence from Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

Applications for Street Cafe Licences
If you apply for a Street Cafe Licence with Stockton Council the following procedure is required as part of the application process:
- Public notice of the application must be given detailing the proposal and deadline for representations.
- All representations received must be considered.
- Any other relevant authorities must be consulted.
Once you submit an application we will not withhold consent without reasonable cause.

If you wish to complain about the way we have dealt with your application please contact the Technical Services team. An appointed arbitrator will determine if consent has been unreasonably withheld.
If you wish to complain about a business that we have allocated a Pavement Licence to in your area we advise that you contact the trader in the first instance - preferably by letter (with proof of delivery). If your complaint is not resolved you may wish to take advice from Consumer Direct (if you live within the UK) or the UK European Consumer Centre (if you live outside of the UK) or you may contact the Technical Services team with details of your complaint.
