Market Trading Licence

We welcome applications from people wishing to trade at one of our open markets in Stockton, Billingham or Thornaby.

When a permanent pitch becomes available consideration will firstly be given to those existing permanent market stall holders who may wish to relocate or expand in accordance with the Open Market Regulations.

Should a permanent stall holder not require the vacant pitch then consideration will then be given to casual stall holders and new applicants.

Applications will be considered based on the following criteria:

  • Length of time the existing market stall holder has held their permanent/casual pitch
  • History of conduct
  • Attendance and reliability
  • Items to be sold
  • Proof of Public Liability Insurance

Where an applicant is unsuccessful they will be added to a waiting list until a further permanent market stall pitch becomes available.  This information is for guidance only and applicants should read and understand the Open Market Regulations (2009) before applying.

Will tacit consent apply?

Tacit consent will not apply. It is in the public interest that the authority must process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from us within 28 days please contact us.
